The proud history of Air Zimbabwe hinges on its enviable safety record, the exceptional skills of its pilots and engineers as well as its fairly strong cabin services.

Air Zimbabwe can trace its history back to the formation of Central African Airways on 1st June 1946. Central African Airways was a joint venture of South Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland. In 1967 the venture between the three demolished thus leading to the formation of Air Rhodesia Corporation on 1st September. The airline finally changed its name to Air Zimbabwe Corporation in February 1980 with the independence of Zimbabwe. Since 1997, the airline is working as wholly government-owned private company (Air Zimbabwe (Pvt) Limited).

The initial fleet of Air Zimbabwe was based on four B707s and two Viscounts which later phased out in 1984-85. The airline then acquired three new B737s and two B767-200ER during same period. In 2005 the company added three more aircraft to its fleet, the MA60s. Recently in 2011 Air Zimbabwe is disclosed to bought an Airbus A340-500 and an Airbus A320.

Air Zimbabwe had operated flights to many regional and international flights operating with its main hub at Harare International Airport. 24 destinations had been served by Air Zimbabwe flights out of which many have been terminated. Currently the airline is operating a total of 9 flights (3 domestic and 6 international). The international destinations of Air Zimbabwe include London, Johannesburg, Lubumbashi, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and Lusaka.
